As you may know, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has me in its sights. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the DCCC believe that because President Obama picked up more votes in the 24th Congressional District than Senator McCain did in November 2008 that I am beatable this year.

This is a battle between those who believe that big government should control every aspect of every American life and those who believe in limited government that encourages individual initiative, responsibility and creativity. It’s a battle between those who believe in the nanny state and those who believe in the entrepreneurial spirit. It’s a battle we must win.

We can take back Congress this year. It begins with keeping the seats we have. Speaker Pelosi knows this; that’s why she’s targeted me and other Republicans in districts where President Obama won a majority.

You may have already received a robocall from the DCCC attacking my vote against government-run healthcare and mischaracterizing my record on healthcare reform. Expect more as we get deeper into the election year and the political field shapes up.

It is a great privilege to represent the Ventura and Santa Barbara County people of the 24th Congressional District. It’s also a great responsibility. Our nation faces great challenges this year. That is why I have decided to seek re-election.

I look forward to continuing to make sure Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties’ concerns are heard and acted upon in Washington.
